Policy / campaign enquiry responses

Black lives matter
Anti Fracking campaign

Every day, I receive dozens of policy, petition and campaign emails from constituents concerned about a huge variety of national issues. While individual constituency enquiries will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume of emails now being generated, I can no longer guarantee replying to these individually and am therefore posting my responses on this section of my website.

Support for Gurkhas (Pensions)

The Gurkha community have a deep rooted history in Maidstone through the Invicta Barracks and I have heard from many people regarding pension discrimination.Gurkhas have served the British Crown for over 200 years and enjoy a rich heritage marked by excellence and sacrifice.

Digital ID

I am extremely concerned over the Government’s proposed plans to introduce digital ID cards, and I have heard from many constituents expressing the same worries. Keir Starmer’s plan for a national digital ID is a cynical distraction from his failure to stop the boats.

Planning & Infrastructure Bill

I am aware that many constituents have concerns over the lack of environmental protection provisions in the forthcoming Planning and Infrastructure Bill, particularly surrounding the conservation of species such as bats, and the important issue of preserving our green spaces.  All bat spec

PIP Cuts

The Government’s recent announcement regarding changes to welfare support has prompted a significant amount of correspondence from people across Maidstone and Malling.

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

Today, at the third reading of The Assisted Dying Bill, I voted against The Motion. Since MPs last considered The Bill in May, I have not been reassured that subsequent amendments will sufficiently protect the most vulnerable in our society.

Crime and Policing Bill

I have been contacted by several constituents regarding the amendments that were voted on in the Crime and Policing Bill. As your MP, I want to be clear that I take decisions on sensitive issues like abortion with the utmost seriousness.

Crime and Policing Bill (Abortion Amendment)

As your MP, I want to be clear that I take decisions on sensitive issues like abortion with the utmost seriousness. I am sure you will appreciate that I received a significant amount of correspondence, expressing strong views on both sides of this debate.I abstained on this particular vote.

EDM 633 (the right to protest)

It is essential that people have the right to protest, however, no one has the right to intimidate or harass other citizens, including the Jewish communityThe Metropolitan Police stated after independent consideration that it was appropriate to prevent the Palestine Solidarity Ca

New Homes (Solar Generation) Bill

It is my view that, where appropriate, solar panels can put unused roof space to good use and are an important technology in helping to reduce carbon emissions.I believe the Government must support the deployment of rooftop solar across the country.

Foreign Political Donations

There is a long-standing principle that permissible donors are those on the UK electoral register.

Israel / Palestine (November 2024)

I have been contacted by a large number of constituents about this ongoing situation and I appreciate the strength of feeling on this matter. This is an unimaginably difficult time for people in Israel and Gaza and I can assure you that I want to see an end to the awful violence in the re

Assisted Dying Bill

I have been contacted by many of my constituents about the assisted dying and end of life issues during the coming Parliament. Assisted dying matters are difficult and anyone facing such decisions deserves the highest level of compassion and understanding.
