Policy / campaign enquiry responses

Black lives matter
Anti Fracking campaign

Every day, I receive dozens of policy, petition and campaign emails from constituents concerned about a huge variety of national issues. While individual constituency enquiries will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume of emails now being generated, I can no longer guarantee replying to these individually and am therefore posting my responses on this section of my website.

Terminal Illness

Coping with terminal illness is distressing and difficult both for the patient and their families. These cases are truly moving and evoke the highest degree of compassion and emotion.

Arthiritis

I know this can be a very painful and debilitating condition. I recognise that living with a long-term condition, such as arthritis, has a significant impact upon a person’s wellbeing.

Social Care

Social Care

We must all receive dignified care in old age. With an ageing population, this is one of the biggest challenges our country faces and I support the Government’s commitment to making sure that the most vulnerable in society gain the support they need.

Leave No Girl Behind

I know the UK works with a wide range of international partners to ensure the best results for girls across the world. I am proud of the leadership that the UK has shown, supporting the UN and national governments to keep girls safe.

Covert Human Intelligence Bill

I appreciate you have concerns about the proposed legislation in this area. This is a very sensitive and important area of the law.

Grenfell

Fire Safety Bill

I have been following this important legislation and I am aware of the amendment to the Bill by the House of Lords prohibiting the passing of remediation costs on to leaseholders and tenants. I entirely support the intention of the amendment to protect leaseholders.

Refugee Resettlement

The UK continues to be one of the world’s leading refugee resettlement states. As a country, between 2016 and 2019 we resettle more refugees than any other in Europe and are in the top five countries worldwide.

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

Please allow me to assure you that every effort is being made to continue raising awareness of breast cancer and to improve the treatment of all those diagnosed with this disease.

UK Service Personnel

Overseas Operations Bill

I welcome the fact that the Overseas Operations Bill has passed the House of Commons, unamended, and is now being considered by the House of Lords on its way to becoming law.

Wet market

Global Wildlife Trade

I would like to reassure you that Ministers are fully committed to tackling the environmental drivers of pandemics, including by reversing global biodiversity loss, tackling unsustainable and illegal wildlife trade, and driving up standards in food production and food safety around the world.

Animal Testing

I understand your concerns regarding the use of animals in scientific testing. I believe that the use of animals should be avoided wherever possible, and in the limited cases when animals are used, this should be done in accordance with strict guidelines to ensure any suffering is minimised.

Kent Toger Helpline

Free School Meals

At the start of the pandemic, extraordinary measures were put in place to help vulnerable children, including extending free school meals when schools were partially closed.
