2019 is set to be a momentous year for our nation.
The spectre of Brexit looms large and I will just say this. I hope that in Parliament we can use the New Year spirit to break the current deadlock and build consensus to allow us to deliver Brexit in the national interest. We must then return to prioritising crucial issues such as funding for our schools and hospitals.
There is also much to look forward to in 2019. On the sporting field, England will host World Cups in Cricket and Netball, providing more superb opportunities to inspire people across our nation to get active. There will also a royal baby, a new Toy Story film and, of course, the Spice Girls are going back on tour!
Closer to home, our campaign to finally secure Maidstone the train services it needs and deserves will reach crescendo in 2019. I am proud of the way our community has united to press this vitally important case and let's hope that the hard work pays off in 2019. My efforts to encourage Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council to work better together to tackle the chronic congestions problems in and around Maidstone will also continue a pace in 2019. Furthermore, I am looking forward to developing specific plans in the next 12 months to keep inappropriate HGVs away from our rural roads
In addition to all of this, I am always interested to hear about new and emerging issues which are important to my constituents in Maidstone and the Weald. So if there is a cause close to your heart which you feel I should be championing in 2019 then please do not hesitate to let me know about it at helen.grant.mp@parliament.uk.
In the meantime, I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year and all the very best for 2019.
