It was wonderful to welcome Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester in Maidstone, to acknowledge and to recognise the outstanding work of the Blackthorn Trust and its remarkable team of volunteers.
Every year this exceptional charity supports hundreds of people with mental health conditions – changing and improving their lives for the better, in very practical and compassionate ways.
The facilities include a health and community hub that not only provides NHS clinical facilities but also an holistic alternative therapy centre. I met some of the clinical team and some of their patients to hear about how they provide life enhancing opportunities for people with mental and / or chronic physical health conditions.
Their philosophy is that more than medication is required to affect positive change, combining both conventional and spiritual approaches.
It was a special day and a perfect way to mark the charity’s 40th Anniversary.
