Helen Grant with Paula Hudgell

For months Conservatives have pressed the Government for a Child Cruelty Register, alongside my constituent Paula Hudgell, supported by Nick Timothy and families who have endured the worst.

I am delighted the Government has now accepted our case, tabled an amendment, and will proceed to adopt this important measure.

But the detail matters. We will therefore keep pushing to make sure the register is comprehensive so the most violent serious child cruelty offenders cannot disappear back into anonymity.

This is a victory for children, for common sense, and for the principle that justice does not end at the prison gate.
