Today is World Cancer Day.
Cancer touches far too many families in our community. Many of us know the fear of a diagnosis, the strain of treatment, and the importance of compassionate care and support along the way.
Today is about raising awareness, encouraging early diagnosis, supporting those living with cancer, and remembering loved ones we have lost. It’s also a moment to recognise the incredible work of our NHS staff, researchers, charities, and volunteers who support people every single day.
This cause is close to my heart as a cancer survivor, and I remain committed to working alongside campaigners, clinicians, and policymakers to ensure better outcomes for all those affected by this devastating disease. This includes ongoing support for the Lobular Moon-Shot Project. This campaign is asking the government to invest £20m for specific research into this form of breast cancer.
We must continue to push for better access to screening, faster diagnoses, improved treatments, and strong local support services so that no one faces cancer alone.
