I am extremely concerned over the Government’s proposed plans to introduce digital ID cards, and I have heard from many constituents expressing the same worries.
Keir Starmer’s plan for a national digital ID is a cynical distraction from his failure to stop the boats. Forcing every citizen to have a digital ID won’t fix illegal immigration, it just gives government more power over law-abiding Britons.
The British people have always rejected ID cards, and rightly so. Conservatives believe in empowering citizens, not controlling them. We already have secure, trusted ways to prove identity without a centralised system.
Mandatory digital ID is intrusive and unnecessary - and I’ll be opposing it in Parliament.
