Sixth Form students studying at the St Augustine Academy in Maidstone, engaged in round table talks last Friday, with the Member of Parliament for Maidstone and the Weald, Helen Grant MP.
Ever intent upon engaging young people in politics, Helen visited the St Augustine Academy and spent some quality time with the students. She talked about her own education, her background and her life now as a Member of Parliament. The students eagerly interacted with Helen, asking many questions of the MP and informing her of their own aspirations.
"It was so refreshing to chat with these young people and hear of their plans for the future. The St Augustine Academy is doing a brilliant job in encouraging their pupils to reach their full potential and it was heartening to listen to their positive "can do" attitude. I have invited the students to visit me at Westminster and I look forward to meeting them again in the near future." said Helen.
Following the meeting with the students, Helen met several head teachers from local schools to discuss the potential impact of funding cuts to the education budget.
