Local MP Helen Grant took part in a special event run by Citizens Advice held at the Gateway office of Maidstone Borough Council on 20 January.
Part of the nationwide 'Big Energy Week' programme, the event was designed to provide hands-on help for people to cut their fuel bills and get the best deal possible from their energy supplier.
Bonny Malhotra, CEO of Maidstone Bureau, said: 'Many people don't realise how easy it is to compare the different prices charged by energy suppliers or how to go about negotiating a lower bill with their existing supplier. When money is tight and every penny counts, a saving in fuel bills – whether by getting a better deal or by considering other ways of reducing fuel consumption – can make a huge difference in people's budgets'.
The event showed that an average exceeding £200 a year could be saved from fuel bills by those taking part in the day's session.
Helen Grant, MP, added: 'I fully support this type of practical and helpful approach to people in the community. Fuel bills are a concern to us all, and any assistance in keeping these costs to a minimum is a very important way of managing our finances. I welcome the initiative taken by Maidstone Citizens Advice to help people in this way'.
Anyone wanting help with their fuel costs or other advice can call at the Maidstone Council Gateway or the Tonbridge Road office of Citizens Advice for further information.
